Another win, another clean sheet – its becoming a habit. Despite the wind, rain, our favourite old boy official, and the Pfizer pitch being unusually wet and churned up, Slayer again played some good controlled passing football. The defence were secure – especially Mark C, happy in the knowledge that with Steve J playing in front of him, his rectum was safe for another week!

Both goals came in the first half - the first from some good work in midfield – Nick S threaded a pass to Adam who put a great cross into the 6 yard box over the keeper. Ian made up good ground and jumped to get on the end of it, and tickled the ball in at the back post -a great way to celebrate his

50th Slayer appearance. For the second goal, Westcliffe failed to clear their lines, a pass from midfield found Fred one-on-one with the keeper, and a calm finish  bottom right continued his scoring tally, giving Slayer a comfortable 2-0 lead. Slayer continued to create chances – several corners, a few goal mouth scrambles, and many – ‘offside’ – well created openings – ‘offside’ – being thwarted – ‘offside’ – by our Hawkeye referee -which on several occasions had both sides baffled.

The second half was a little less one sided, with the weather and

injuries taking their toll. Slayer had two really good chances to double the lead - a near post header blazed over (but we got a corner – thanks Hawkeye), and a shot attempting to lob the keeper lobbed the crossbar and nearly the trees! Westcliffe had a chance to pull one back from a free kick for a ‘back pass’ 10 yards out - but shot wide.

2-0 a fair result.  Bring on the Europeans!
